What Makes Brioni Menswear Exceptional?

For over 70 years, Brioni has sold high quality, made-to-measure suits to fashionable men around the world. Today, the company is one of the most celebrated Italian suit makers, offering excellent ready-to-wear and custom tailored clothing.

With its impeccable construction and tailoring, a Brioni suit holds value over time. That makes Brioni one of our best-selling, pre-owned suit brands and a favorite among our customers.

Each made-to-measure Brioni suit is crafted using the Brioni method, a custom process with 220 steps and more than 22 hours of workmanship. Every suit jacket is fully canvassed, which means an interior layer of canvassing material is placed between the outer suit fabric and inner lining of the jacket. A full-canvassed jacket conforms to a body’s shape and is considered the gold standard of men’s suit craftsmanship.

Brioni opened its first shop in Rome, Italy in 1945, with tailor Nazareno Fonticoli and entrepreneur Gaetano Savini. The Brioni name quickly became associated with quality and elegance, and the brand surged in popularity among movie stars, political officials and business leaders.

In 1952, Brioni held the first men’s runway show in history, at Palazzo Pitti in Florence, Italy. The fashion show debuted not only the idea of male runway models, but also new silhouettes and innovative fabrics for the line.

When Brioni was acquired by luxury group Kering in 2012, the company moved from designing exclusively made-to-measure suits to also offering ready-to-wear collections, as well as leather goods, shoes, eyewear and fragrances. This was a move signaled a change from a more traditional Italian tailoring house to a more fully-rounded, modern luxury brand.

In 2016, street style enthusiast Justin O’Shea was appointed Brioni’s creative director. As a self-taught, decidedly avant-garde fashion expert, O’Shea seemed an unlikely fit to many long-time Brioni customers. His tenure proved to be short-lived, with O’Shea leaving the brand just a few months after showing his first collection.

Even as the brand continues to evolve, you can always expect the tailors at Brioni to create an expertly crafted suit and customers to continue to line up to buy these suits.
